We offer high-performing, early career professionals with exceptional academic achievement an opportunity to join IIB-DG for two years, with two placements in our USA Headquarters plus an international assignment in one of our resident offices.

We have an exciting range of opportunities for those starting out in their career. From internships to our International Professionals Programme, we offer a number of ways to learn new skills in a very special environment. Our IPP represents a great chance for a limited number of individuals to join us on a two-year programme that offers experience in one of our Resident Offices and in a variety of teams at our Headquarters in Washington, DC

About the IPP

The IPP offers a life-changing experience for ambitious, adventurous postgraduates. It is an intensive 24 month programme that will prepare you for a potential career at IIB-DG. It is designed to both invest in your existing talents and expose you to some truly incredible projects.

Starting and finishing the program in our Washington, DC headquarters, you will rotate through three placements, including one that provides the opportunity to work with and learn from other cultures with an assignment in one of our 68 countries of operations.

Our aspirations for you are extremely high. You should expect to be pushed far outside your comfort zone culturally, geographically and intellectually.

Throughout, you will work on an individual training plan under the guidance of a line manager and mentor.  But your development is not just about practical learning.  Regular networking events will also help you build an invaluable base of contacts for your future career.

What our current IPs say

“My experience at the IIB-DG so far has been extraordinary and I can recommend the IPP without hesitation. I have the impression that my colleagues genuinely appreciate my work. I had the chance to work on new transactions from the first week and was able to get exposure to a wide range of different business areas, client sectors and geographical regions. Something that appealed to me in particular, is the openness to new ideas and how enthusiastically some of my suggestions have been taken on board.”

“Being an IP means working on all stages of the project cycle getting unique experience across the sectors and countries. Rotations give you a great chance to work with outstanding people and better understand the IIB-DG’s mission.”

“The programme would be a perfect fit for anyone who enjoys working in a truly multicultural environment and appreciates learning about new concepts on a daily basis. The variety of countries, sectors and innovative ideas is exhilarating and almost impossible to find anywhere else. Be ready for an adventure!”

Internship Programs

Our internships attract the brightest and mostly highly driven individuals that can take on challenging assignments in a variety of business functions, whilst nurturing personal growth.

We advertise regularly for internship opportunities , rather than recruiting at a specific time of year. These roles provide a great insight into IIB-DG’s work and, in the right circumstances, can lead to a longer-term career at IIB-DG.

Why not take a look at the current list of vacancies and register for job alerts so that we can notify you when new internship roles become available?

If you are interested in coming to meet us directly and find out more about what it’s like to work for the IIB-DG, please check back here regularly to stay informed about the careers events we are attending.

We recruit interns on an ongoing basis, to fill a variety of junior roles across many IIB-DG departments. Whilst we do not operate a formal internship program as such, the numerous interns working at IIB-DG gain valuable experience and insight into the organization.

We do employ interns on a fully-paid basis for positions that arise on an ad-hoc basis. Internship opportunities may be advertised on our jobs website

IIB-DG internship opportunities may arise for students of economics, banking and finance, business administration, law, human resources, communications and the sciences.

Applicants should normally be studying at a post-graduate level, or have just completed their undergraduate programme. Studies should either be in progress or have been completed within the last 12 months.

We offer a limited number of internships to university students and recent graduates who wish to acquire an understanding of IIB-DG’s work or gain experience in their field of studies. Internships normally last between three and five months (six months if requested by universities), and cannot be extended beyond the maximum period. Most are based at our headquarters in Washington, DC, USA.

Summer Jobs

We offer opportunities for students in the form of short-term (two-four weeks) summer jobs and longer-term internships, which usually last between three and 12 months, depending on the programme.

You will gain:

  • An overview of the EIB’s objectives and the challenges arising in achieving them
  • A first professional and personal experience in a dynamic EU body through contacts established in the course of your everyday work
  • Practical knowledge in your field of studies

There are two intakes each year, on 1 February and 1 September. We generally publish opportunities between three and four months prior to the start date.

Typical intern tasks include:

    • Contributing to development projects
    • Financial analysis
    • Research for banking teams in sectors and companies
    • Researching and preparing reports on economic developments in our countries of operations
    • Developing and maintaining databases

Internships normally last between three and six months, depending on the requirements of a specific role, but may be extended for up to a maximum of 12 months.

IIB-DG internships provide an insight into the IIB-DG and its activities and allow you to apply the learning from your studies in a practical working environment. IIB-DG encourages applicants who have an understanding and interest in the mission of the IIB-DG as well as its region of operations.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to apply for IIB-DG internships:

  • You must be able to obtain the necessary visa to allow for Headquarters opportunities.
  • You must have a degree or be in the final year of a course at an institute of higher education. Generally, successful candidates will have enrolled on a graduate study programme (be pursuing a master’s degree).
  • In addition, you must meet the following criteria:
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct analytical work, exercise good judgment and work as part of a team
    • Proficiency in English; knowledge of other languages would be an advantage

We can provide support for visa applications to candidates who have been offered an internship.

What we offer

We pay a flat-rate monthly allowance to assist with living costs and provide reimbursement of travel expenses (one round trip from/to the point of origin/residence).

What you will contribute

You will be responsible for your accommodation costs. You will commit to spend a minimum of three and maximum of five months in the programme at our headquarters in Washington, DC, USA

How to apply

To apply for an internship position, please view our current vacancies and respond to one of the internship opportunities by submitting your application online. Due to the high number of applicants, we will only contact those identified as suitable for an assignment to discuss their application and availability. A panel makes the final selection of candidates, and competition is very high. Good luck!
